Piano Regulation and Voicing

There is so much more to piano maintenance than tuning. Regulation is the process of adjusting the action of the piano to optimize consistency, power, speed, friction, and tone. A regulated piano gives the player ultimate control over the sound of the instrument. Voicing is the process of changing the density of the hammers to achieve a more pleasant tone, or, when paired with regulation, a wider spectrum of tonal options. If your piano is not cooperating with you, read below about our regulation and voicing services!

  • Tuning services

    • Most regulating and voicing is done as a part of our timed tuning services. These are treated as “check-ups” to ensure nothing is wildly wrong, and to gradually move things towards an optimal range through yearly appointments

    • At the end of a timed appointment, if more work is required or recommended, we will move forward on an “as needed” basis

  • Full Regulation

    • A piano that hasn’t seen a service appointment in many years or a brand new piano that hasn’t seen a technician since the factory may need a full regulation

    • This process includes adjusting everything back to factory specifications, and sometimes replacing worn out parts in the process. Full regulations can take anywhere from six hours to a few days! Contact us if you want to move forward with regulating your piano
